This is a step-by-step guide to installing an optional, model-specific HEX ezCAN PURE plug & play input harness on all Honda CRF300L models.

- CRF300L (All years)
- CRF300L Rally (All years)

The generic HEX ezCAN PURE installation guide contains all the general procedures you need to install a HEX ezCAN PURE on your Honda CRF300L or Honda CRF300L Rally.
If you are planning to install an optional HEX plug-&-play input harness instead of the generic input harness included with the HEX ezCAN PURE, read the instructions below in conjunction with the generic HEX ezCAN PURE installation guide.

IMPORTANT: All disassembly and reassembly instructions on this page are to be regarded as a guide only. For detailed instructions, refer to your motorcycle’s service or workshop manual as appropriate.
Make sure all signal input connection points are easily accessible by doing the steps that follow.
- Remove the seat.
- Remove the lower left-side body panel located under the seat.
- The battery is located behind the lower left-side body panel (red arrow, right).
- Remove the body panels necessary to gain access to the headlight unit.
- Remove the headlight unit. On CRF300L Rally models, also remove the windscreen.
- The wiring harness connectors for the tail light and rear turn signals are located under the rear portion of the seat, inside a bottleneck-shaped plastic sleeve (red arrow, left).
- The wiring harness connector for the tail light is a black 3-pin connector.
- The wiring harness connector for the left-side turn signal is an orange 2-pin connector.
- The wiring harness connector for the right-side turn signal is a blue 2-pin connector.
- Find the relevant 3-pin or 4-pin harness connector on the headlight unit. The optional plug-&-play harness’ high beam splitter will be connected to this connector.
- The horn is located on the upper left front of the engine, to the right of the coolant reservoir (green arrow, right).

When installing a HEX ezCAN PURE on Honda CRF300L models, we recommend that you install the main body of the HEX ezCAN underneath the rear part of the seat.
Our experience has shown that this placement gives the best combination of input connector placement, battery cable slack, ease of access to the USB port and status LED, and protection from damage.

- Route the end of the optional plug-&-play input harness with 6-pin JWPF connector into the wide end of the Honda’s plastic sleeve, and out of the narrow end. Leave enough slack for easy connection of the tail light and turn signal splitters.
- Route the end of the optional plug-&-play input harness with 6-pin JWPF connector forward along the motorcycle toward the front part of the seat area.
- Connect the 6-pin male JWPF connector on the optional plug-&-play input harness to the HEX ezCAN PURE’s 6-pin female JWPF connector (below).

First, switch OFF the motorcycle’s ignition switch.
Next, connect the input connectors on the optional plug & play harness to the motorcycle as follows:
TAIL LIGHT splitter (right):
Connect the tail light splitter as follows:
- Separate the motorcycle’s black male and black female 3-pin rear tail light connectors.
- Connect the optional plug-&-play harness’ black tail light splitter between the motorcycle’s male and female 3-pin tail light connectors (red arrows, right).
TURN SIGNAL splitters (left):
Connect the turn signal splitters as follows:
- Separate the motorcycle’s orange male and orange female 2-pin rear turn signal connectors.
- Connect the optional plug-&-play harness’ orange (left-side) turn signal splitter between the motorcycle’s orange male and female 2-pin rear turn signal connectors (orange arrow, left).
- Connect the optional plug-&-play harness’ blue (right-side) turn signal splitter between the motorcycle’s blue male and female 2-pin rear turn signal connectors (blue arrow, left).
- Neatly bunch the tail light and turn signal splitter wiring connections, and carefully slide the connections into the wide end of the wiring harness’ plastic sleeve.
Plug-&-play harness HIGH BEAM/HORN wiring:
Route the main plug-&-play harness’ high beam and horn connections forward along the motorcycle as follows:
- Starting at the optional plug-&-play harness’ 6-pin JWPF connector, keep the plug-&-play harness’ high beam and horn wires together by wrapping them with electrical insulation tape at approximately 10cm (4″) intervals.
- At the high beam and horn wire connectors, use electrical tape to temporarily bind a medium-sized cable tie to the optional plug-&-play harness wiring.
- From the point at which the main plug-&-play harness connects to the ezCAN PURE, route the high beam and horn connections forward along the inside edges of the motorcycle’s upper left subframe tube, under the lower left edge of the fuel tank, and along the main wiring harness run toward the headlight and horn.
HIGH BEAM splitter (right):
From the point at which the optional plug-&-play harness reaches the coolant reservoir, route the blue high beam wire forward toward the headlight along the motorcycle’s wiring harness.
Three different high beam splitters are included with the plug-&-play harness kit for Honda CRF300L:
- Type 1 (3-pin connector): for CRF300L with H4 Halogen headlight.
- Type 2 (4-pin connector): for CRF300L Rally with Halogen headlight (seen at right).
- Type 3 (4-pin connector): for CRF300L with LED headlight.
Connect the correct high beam splitter to the headlight unit as follows:
- Disconnect the headlight connector from the motorcycle’s headlight unit.
- Select the the correct HEX high-beam splitter cable.
- Connect the female connector on the high-beam splitter to the motorcycle’s headlight.
- Connect the male connector on the high-beam splitter to the female wiring harness plug on the motorcycle.
- Carefully route the blue trigger wire back to the HEX ezCAN PURE along existing wiring harness runs and frame tubes.
- Connect the single-pin plug on the open end of the blue trigger wire to the single-pin plug on the open end of the red wire on the optional plug-&-play harness.
HORN splitter:
From the point at which the optional plug-&-play harness reaches the coolant reservoir, route the green horn wire downward toward the horn.
Before connecting the horn splitter to a horn terminal, identify the correct horn terminal as follows:
- Switch the motorcycle’s ignition ON.
- Locate the factory horn.
- Touch your multimeter’s negative (black) probe to the Battery negative terminal.
- While pressing the horn button, touch the positive (red) probe to one of the horn’s terminals, then the other.
- Whenever the horn is active, there will be a voltage change on only one of the horn terminals. The terminal on which the voltage change happens is the terminal to which you must connect the HORN splitter.
The voltage change when the horn is activated will be from approximately 0V to approximately battery voltage.
For illustration purposes, the images below show a black-coloured horn power wire. Note that the power wire identified on your motorcycle may have a different colour.
When you have identified the correct horn power terminal, connect the horn splitter as follows:
- Connect the single-pin plug on the open end of the green horn trigger wire to the single-pin plug on the open end of the green wire on the optional plug-&-play harness (below).
- Remove the power wire’s spade terminal from the factory horn (below).
- Connect the horn splitter’s male+female spade terminal to the exposed male terminal on the horn (below).
- Connect the disconnected female spade terminal to the exposed male terminal on the horn splitter (below).

To ensure that the HEX ezCAN PURE gives peak performance, adjust its control inputs as follows:
- Set the input inversion settings and threshold voltage values as seen in Step 2C of the HEX ezCAN PURE Software Download & Configuration Guide.
- If the threshold voltage values given in the page above do not give consistent performance, adjust the values as shown in the Additional configuration settings for HEX ezCAN PURE section of the HEX ezCAN User Manual (download the manual from here).
