Optional Plug & Play Input Harness - Honda 001

This is a step-by-step guide to installing an optional, model-specific HEX ezCAN PURE plug & play input harness on all Honda CRF300L models.

An optional plug & play harness is currently available for the following Honda CRF300 models:

  • CRF300L (All years)
  • CRF300L Rally (All years)

Stap 1

The generic HEX ezCAN PURE installation guide contains all the general procedures you need to install a HEX ezCAN PURE on your Honda CRF300L or Honda CRF300L Rally.

Stap 2

Maak de benodigde aansluitpunten zichtbaar

IMPORTANT: All disassembly and reassembly instructions on this page are to be regarded as a guide only. For detailed instructions, refer to your motorcycle’s service or workshop manual as appropriate.

Make sure all signal input connection points are easily accessible by doing the steps that follow.

  1. Verwijder de stoel.
  2. Remove the lower left-side body panel located under the seat.
    • The battery is located behind the lower left-side body panel (red arrow, right).
  3. Remove the body panels necessary to gain access to the headlight unit.
  4. Remove the headlight unit. On CRF300L Rally models, also remove the windscreen.
  1. The wiring harness connectors for the tail light and rear turn signals are located under the rear portion of the seat, inside a bottleneck-shaped plastic sleeve (red arrow, left).
    • The wiring harness connector for the tail light is a black 3-pin connector.
    • The wiring harness connector for the left-side turn signal is an orange 2-pin connector.
    • The wiring harness connector for the right-side turn signal is a blue 2-pin connector.
  1. Find the relevant 3-pin or 4-pin harness connector on the headlight unit. The optional plug-&-play harness’ high beam splitter will be connected to this connector.
  2. The horn is located on the upper left front of the engine, to the right of the coolant reservoir (green arrow, right).

Stap 3

Bepaal de locatie van de HEX ezCAN

When installing a HEX ezCAN PURE on Honda CRF300L models, we recommend that you install the main body of the HEX ezCAN underneath the rear part of the seat.

Stap 4

Connect the Optional Plug & Play Input Harness to the HEX ezCAN PURE

  1. Route the end of the optional plug-&-play input harness with 6-pin JWPF connector into the wide end of the Honda’s plastic sleeve, and out of the narrow end. Leave enough slack for easy connection of the tail light and turn signal splitters.
  2. Route the end of the optional plug-&-play input harness with 6-pin JWPF connector forward along the motorcycle toward the front part of the seat area.

Stap 5

Connect the Optional Plug & Play Harness to the Motorcycle

Schakel eerst de contactschakelaar van de motorfiets UIT.

Next, connect the input connectors on the optional plug & play harness to the motorcycle as follows:

TAIL LIGHT splitter (right):

Connect the tail light splitter as follows:

  1. Separate the motorcycle’s black male and black female 3-pin rear tail light connectors.
  2. Connect the optional plug-&-play harness’ black tail light splitter between the motorcycle’s male and female 3-pin tail light connectors (red arrows, right).

TURN SIGNAL splitters (left):

Connect the turn signal splitters as follows:

  1. Separate the motorcycle’s orange male and orange female 2-pin rear turn signal connectors.
  2. Connect the optional plug-&-play harness’ orange (left-side) turn signal splitter between the motorcycle’s orange male and female 2-pin rear turn signal connectors (orange arrow, left).
  3. Connect the optional plug-&-play harness’ blue (right-side) turn signal splitter between the motorcycle’s blue male and female 2-pin rear turn signal connectors (blue arrow, left).
  4. Neatly bunch the tail light and turn signal splitter wiring connections, and carefully slide the connections into the wide end of the wiring harness’ plastic sleeve.

Plug-&-play-kabelboom HIGH BEAM/HORN-bedrading:

Leid de aansluitingen voor grootlicht en claxon van de belangrijkste plug-&-play-kabelboom als volgt naar voren langs de motorfiets:

  1. Begin bij de optionele plug-&-play-kabelboom met 6-pins JWPF-connector en houd de kabels voor grootlicht en claxon van de plug-&-play-kabelboom bij elkaar door ze met elektrische isolatietape om de ongeveer 10 cm (4 inch) vast te binden.
  2. Gebruik bij de connectoren voor grootlicht en claxon tijdelijk isolatietape om een middelgrote kabelbinder aan de optionele plug-&-play-kabelboom te bevestigen.
  3. Vanaf het punt waar de belangrijkste plug-&-play-kabelboom wordt aangesloten op de ezCAN PURE, leidt u de aansluitingen voor grootlicht en claxon naar voren langs de binnenranden van de linker bovenste subframebuis van de motorfiets, onder de linker onderrand van de brandstoftank en langs de hoofdkabelboom naar de koplamp en claxon.

HIGH BEAM -splitter (rechts):

Vanaf het punt waar de optionele plug-&-play-kabelboom het koelvloeistofreservoir bereikt, leidt u de blauwe kabel voor grootlicht naar voren in de richting van de koplamp langs de kabelboom van de motorfiets.

Er worden drie verschillende high beam splitters meegeleverd met de plug-&-play-kabelboomset voor de Honda CRF300L:

  • Type 1 (3-pins connector): voor CRF300L met H4 halogeen koplamp.
  • Type 2 (4-pins connector): voor CRF300L Rally met halogeen koplamp (zie afbeelding rechts).
  • Type 3 (4-pins connector): voor CRF300L met LED-koplamp.


Sluit de juiste grootlichtverdeler als volgt aan op de koplampunit:

  1. Koppel de koplampconnector los van de koplampunit van de motorfiets.
  2. Selecteer de juiste HEX-kabel voor de grootlichtverdeler.
  3. Sluit de vrouwelijke connector op de grootlichtverdeler aan op de koplamp van de motorfiets.
  4. Sluit de mannelijke connector op de grootlichtverdeler aan op de vrouwelijke kabelboomstekker op de motorfiets.
  5. Leid de blauwe triggerkabel voorzichtig terug naar de HEX ezCAN PURE langs bestaande kabelbomen en framebuizen.
  6. Sluit de eenpolige stekker aan het open uiteinde van de blauwe triggerkabel aan op de eenpolige stekker aan het open uiteinde van de rode kabel op de optionele plug-&-play-kabelboom.

HORN -splitter:

From the point at which the optional plug-&-play harness reaches the coolant reservoir, route the green horn wire downward toward the horn.

  1. Zet het contact van de motorfiets AAN.
  2. Zoek de fabriekshoorn.
  3. Raak met de negatieve (zwarte) sonde van uw multimeter de negatieve pool van de accu aan.
  4. Houd de claxonknop ingedrukt en raak met de positieve (rode) sonde eerst één van de aansluitingen van de claxon aan en vervolgens de andere.
  5. Wanneer de claxon actief is, treedt erslechts opéén van de claxonklemmen een spanningsverandering op. De klem waarop de spanningsverandering plaatsvindt, is de klem waarop u de HORN-splitter moet aansluiten.


The voltage change when the horn is activated will be from approximately 0V to approximately battery voltage.

For illustration purposes, the images below show a black-coloured horn power wire. Note that the power wire identified on your motorcycle may have a different colour.

Wanneer u de juiste aansluiting voor de claxon hebt gevonden, sluit u de claxonsplitter als volgt aan:

  1. Connect the single-pin plug on the open end of the green horn trigger wire to the single-pin plug on the open end of the green wire on the optional plug-&-play harness (below).
  1. Verwijder de vorkstekker van de stroomkabel uit de fabriekshoorn (onder).
  1. Sluit de mannelijke + vrouwelijke vorkstekker van de claxonsplitter aan op de blootliggende mannelijke aansluiting op de claxon (zie hieronder).
  1. Sluit de losgekoppelde vrouwelijke vorkstekker aan op de blootliggende mannelijke stekker op de claxonsplitter (zie hieronder).

Stap 6

Stel de waarden voor invoerinversie en drempelspanning in

Om ervoor te zorgen dat de HEX ezCAN PURE optimale prestaties levert, stelt u de besturingsinvoer als volgt in:

  1. Set the input inversion settings and threshold voltage values as seen in Step 2C of the  HEX ezCAN PURE Software Download & Configuration Guide.
  2. Als de drempelspanningswaarden op de bovenstaande pagina geen consistente prestaties opleveren, pas dan de waarden aan zoals aangegeven in het gedeelte Extra configuratie-instellingen voor HEX ezCAN PURE van de HEX ezCAN-gebruikershandleiding (download de handleiding hier).

Stap 7

Ga verder met de installatie
