Step 2: Expose the Needed Connection Points
Step 2
Expose the Needed Connection Points
IMPORTANT: All disassembly and reassembly instructions on this page are to be regarded as a guide only. For detailed instructions, refer to your motorcycle’s service or workshop manual as appropriate.
Make sure all signal input connection points are easily accessible by doing the steps that follow:
- Remove the seat.
- The battery is located under the rider’s potion of the seat (red arrow, right).
- Remove the left- and right-side fairing panels as follows:
- Remove the hex-head screws (red arrows, left).
- Remove the Phillips-head screws (green arrows, left). The lower Phillips-head screw is located on the reverse side of the painted panel, forward of the radiator.
- Gently pull the painted panels away from the motorcycle, starting at the bottom of each panel and working your way upward toward the
turn signals.
- Remove the left-side and right-side inner infill panels located forward of the radiator, as follows:
- Remove the panel pin (green arrow, right).
- Remove the three screws (red arrows, right).
- Remove the two hex-head screws at the lower left and lower right corners of the protective radiator shroud (red arrow, left).
- Remove the left-side fairing support panel as follows:
- Displace the turn-signal harness JWPF plug from its securing clip, and disconnect the male and female halves of the plug (green arrow, right).
- Remove the hex-head screws (red arrows, right).
- Remove the right-side fairing support panel as follows:
- Displace the T-box (highlighted by the white star, left) and temporarily store it out of the way of the work area.
- Remove the hex-head screws from the same locations as on the left side panel.
- Remove the hex-head screws at the inside lower edges of the left-side and right-side fairing support panels (red arrow, right).
- Remove the hex-head screws securing the rear ends of the left and right fuel tank trim panels (red arrows, left).
- Remove the three hex-head screws securing the fuel filler cap (red arrows, right).
- Remove the two hex-head screws securing the upper rear edges of the left and right fuel tank trim panels (red arrows, right).
- Remove the fuel filler cap trim panel.
- Remove the hex-head screws securing the upper edges of the left and right fuel tank trim panels (red arrows, left).
- Remove the left and right fuel tank trim panels by gently pulling them in an upward direction.
- The wiring harness connectors for the rear turn signals and tail light are located in the compartment behind the rear portion of the seat, in front of the tail light (red arrow, right).
- The wiring harness connector for the tail light is a white, flat, 3-pin connector.
- The wiring harness connectors for the turn signals are bullet-type connectors.
- The white 4-pin headlight connector is located underneath the headlight mounting bracket, (in the picture at left, the female 4-pin wiring harness connector is disconnected from the male 4-pin headlight connector). The connector can be accessed by reaching through the black plastic fairing support bracket.
Step 3: Decide the HEX ezCAN's Location
Step 3
Decide the HEX ezCAN's Location
When installing a HEX ezCAN PURE on the CFMoto 450 MT, we recommend that you install the main body under the seat, near the battery.
Our experience has shown that this placement gives the best combination of input connector placement, battery cable slack, ease of access to the USB port and status LED, and protection from damage.
Step 4: Connect the Optional Plug & Play Input Harness to the HEX ezCAN PURE
Step 4
Connect the Optional Plug & Play Input Harness to the HEX ezCAN PURE
Connect the 6-pin male JWPF connector on the optional plug-&-play input harness to the HEX ezCAN PURE’s 6-pin female JWPF connector (below).
Step 5: Connect the Optional Plug & Play Harness to the Motorcycle
Step 5
Connect the Optional Plug & Play Harness to the Motorcycle
First, switch OFF the motorcycle’s ignition switch.
Next, connect the input connectors on the optional plug & play harness to the motorcycle as follows:
HIGH BEAM splitter (right):
- Disconnect the motorcycle’s male and female 4-pin headlight connectors located under the left-side front fairing panel.
- Connect the female connector on the HEX high-beam splitter to the male wiring harness plug on the motorcycle.
- Connect the male connector on the HEX high-beam splitter to the female wiring harness plug on the motorcycle.
- Carefully route the blue trigger wire back to the HEX ezCAN PURE along existing wiring harness runs and frame tubes.
TAIL LIGHT splitter (left):
- Disconnect the motorcycle’s white male and female flat 3-pin connectors located in front of the tail light.
- Connect the female connector on the HEX tail light splitter to the male wiring harness plug on the motorcycle.
- Connect the male connector on the HEX tail light splitter to the female wiring harness plug on the motorcycle.
- Carefully route the tail light trigger wires back to the HEX ezCAN PURE along existing wiring harness runs and frame tubes.
TURN SIGNAL splitters:
On the CFMoto 450 MT:
- The factory left-side rear turn signal bullet connectors have orange and green with light green tracer wires on the wiring harness sides of the connectors, and orange and green wires on the light source sides of the connectors.
- The factory right-side rear turn signal bullet connectors have sky blue and green with light green tracer wires on the wiring harness sides of the connectors, and sky blue and green wires on the light source sides of the connectors.
Connect and route the turn signal splitter wires as follows:
- For the left rear turn signal, connect the HEX bullet-connector turn signal splitter with black wire between the bullet connectors with orange wires.
- For the right rear turn signal, connect the HEX bullet-connector turn signal splitter with brown wire between the bullet connectors with sky blue wires.
- Carefully route the turn signal trigger wires back to the HEX ezCAN PURE along existing wiring harness runs and frame tubes.
HORN splitter:
- Connect the male single-pin connector on the green horn trigger wire (red arrow, below) to the female horn trigger connector on the main body of the HEX ezCAN.
- Remove the spade terminal with light green wire from the factory horn (below).
- Connect the ezCAN horn splitter’s male+female spade terminal to the exposed male terminal on the horn (below).
- Connect the disconnected female spade terminal to the exposed male terminal on the horn splitter (below).
- Carefully route the horn splitter wire back to the HEX ezCAN PURE along existing wiring harness runs and frame tubes.
Step 6: Reassemble the Motorcycle
Step 6
Reassemble the Motorcycle
The reassembly procedure is the reverse of disassembly.
Step 7: Set the Input Inversion and Threshold Voltage Values
Step 7
Set the Input Inversion and Threshold Voltage Values
To ensure that the HEX ezCAN PURE gives peak performance, adjust its control inputs as follows:
- Set the input inversion settings and threshold voltage values as seen in Step 2C of the HEX ezCAN PURE Software Download & Configuration Guide.
- If the threshold voltage values given in the page above do not give consistent performance, adjust the values as shown in the Additional configuration settings for HEX ezCAN PURE section of the HEX ezCAN User Manual (download the manual from here).
