STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE

To start configuring your ezCAN, download the Mac-compatible configuration software or Windows-compatible configuration software by clicking either of the buttons below.

The most recent ezCAN software release for Mac and Windows is version 2508.4.

STEP 2: GET STARTED

  1. Download and install the HEX ezCAN configuration software. Note that software is universal, and works with all HEX ezCANs.
  2. Install the HEX ezCAN on your bike.
  3. Use the USB cable included in the ezCAN installation kit to connect your computer to the HEX ezCAN.
  4. Open the HEX ezCAN configuration software.

STEP 3: CONFIGURE THE CIRCUIT FUNCTIONS

For BMW motorcycles:
The power circuit configuration procedure differs between Generation I HEX ezCAN for BMW and Generation II HEX ezCAN for BMW.

  • If you are configuring a Generation I HEX ezCAN, follow step 3B below.
  • If you are configuring a Generation II HEX ezCAN, follow step 3A below.


For all other motorcycle brands:

All motorcycle brands other than BMW use Generation II ezCAN hardware exclusively.
If you are configuring an ezCAN for any motorcycle that is not a BMW, follow step 3A below.

If you are not sure whether your HEX ezCAN is Generation I or Generation II, click here to find out.

STEP 3A: Setting circuit functions on a Generation II HEX ezCAN

Set the power circuit functions according to the type of accessory connected to each power circuit (for example: auxiliary lights, horn, brake light, or other accessory types).

  1. Click the circuit function icon. A linked display menu containing configuration options will be shown (In the example on the right, the Red Circuit has been selected).
  2. Click the configuration option you want from the list of available options.

STEP 3B: Setting circuit functions on a Generation I HEX ezCAN (2-wire & 3-wire devices)

Set the power circuit functions according to the type of accessory connected to each power circuit (for example: auxiliary lights, horn, brake light, or other accessory types).

  1. Click the circuit function icon. A linked display menu containing configuration options will be shown (In the example on the right, the Red Circuit has been selected).
  2. Click the configuration option you want from the list of available options.

STEP 4: SET THE FUSE TRIP LIMITS

The fuse trip limits are pre-set for each power circuit configuration, but can be adjusted to your needs. Set the fuse trip limit correctly for every power circuit that is in use.

  1. Calculate the correct fuse trip limit for the circuit as shown in the Making the correct fuse selection section of the ezCAN user manual.
  2. Click the fuse value link below the circuit function icon. The fuse setpoint menu will be shown (right).
  3. Select the correct fuse trip limit value from the list.

STEP 5: CONFIGURE AUXILIARY FRONT LIGHTS

For safety and visibility reasons, the intensity levels of all auxiliary front lights connected to the ezCAN are adjustable for day and night riding conditions.

  • If your bike has an ambient light sensor, the reading from this sensor determines the day/night condition.
  • For all other bikes, day/night condition is determined by the time of day shown on the bike’s clock.

The ‘sun’ (☀) sliders let you adjust the daytime intensity of the relevant auxiliary lights. The ‘moon’ (☾) sliders let you adjust the night-time intensity of the relevant auxiliary lights (right).

Daytime and night-time intensity of all front auxiliary lights can be adjusted from 0% to 100% of maximum in increments of 10%.

Activate or deactivate front auxiliary lights

IMPORTANT:
For detailed model-specific instructions on how to switch front auxiliary lights on and off, adjust light intensity levels while on the move, temporarily switch off all front and rear lights, and strobe front auxiliary lights on ‘Flash-to-pass’, refer to the Operating auxiliary front lights section of the ezCAN User Manual.

Toggle Auxiliary Lights One on or off by holding in the turn signal cancel button for 3 seconds. Toggle Auxiliary Lights Two on or off by triple-clicking the turn signal cancel button.

If configured, all brake, accessory and horn outputs will remain active if the front auxiliary lights are deactivated.

Toggle Auxiliary Lights One on or off by pressing the INFO or TRIP button for approximately 7 seconds. Toggle Auxiliary Lights Two on or off by holding in the clutch lever while pressing the INFO or TRIP button for approximately 7 seconds.

If configured, all brake, accessory and horn outputs will remain active if the front auxiliary lights are deactivated.

Toggle Auxiliary Lights One on or off by pressing the turn signal cancel button for 3 seconds. Toggle Auxiliary Lights Two on or off by triple-clicking the turn signal cancel button.

If configured, all brake, accessory and horn outputs will remain active if the front auxiliary lights are deactivated.

Toggle Auxiliary Lights One on or off by pressing the TRIP or trigger button for approximately 7 seconds. Toggle Auxiliary Lights Two on or off by holding in the clutch lever while pressing the TRIP or trigger button for approximately 7 seconds.

If configured, all brake, accessory and horn outputs will remain active if the front auxiliary lights are deactivated.

Activate or deactivate Auxiliary Lights 1 by pressing the turn-signal cancel button for more than 3 seconds.
Activate or deactivate Auxiliary Lights 2 by triple-clicking the turn-signal cancel button.

Toggle Auxiliary Lights 1 on or off by toggling the DRL option in the bike’s display menu on and off twice.
Auxiliary Lights 2 can be configured to mimic the on/off behaviour of Auxiliary Lights One using the ezCAN configuration software.

Alternatively, if an optional ezCAN Up/Down Switch is being used to toggle the auxiliary lights:

  • Click UP once to toggle Auxiliary Lights 1 on or off.
  • Click DOWN once to toggle Auxiliary Lights 2 on or off.

Toggle Auxiliary Lights One on or off by pressing the turn signal cancel button for 3 seconds. Toggle Auxiliary Lights Two on or off by triple-clicking the turn signal cancel button.

If configured, all brake, accessory and horn outputs will remain active if the front auxiliary lights are deactivated.

Toggle Auxiliary Lights One on or off by pressing the turn signal cancel button for 3 seconds. Toggle Auxiliary Lights Two on or off by triple-clicking the turn signal cancel button.

If configured, all brake, accessory and horn outputs will remain active if the front auxiliary lights are deactivated.

 

Toggle Auxiliary Lights One on or off by pressing the turn signal cancel button for 3 seconds. Toggle Auxiliary Lights Two on or off by triple-clicking the turn signal cancel button.

If configured, all brake, accessory and horn outputs will remain active if the front auxiliary lights are deactivated.

IMPORTANT: The bike’s cruise control functionality must be inactive for auxiliary light control to work.

Toggle Auxiliary Lights One on or off by triple-clicking the +/RES button on the left switchgear.
Toggle Auxiliary Lights Two on or off by triple-clicking the -/SET button on the left switchgear.

If configured, all brake, accessory and horn outputs will remain active if the front auxiliary lights are deactivated.

Ténéré 700 models (2019-2022):
Press and hold the bottom Set button on the instrument panel, or the SELECT switch on the right-side switchgear until the Auxiliary Lights 1 activate or deactivate (depending on whether the lights were on or off.)

Ténéré 700 models (2023+):
Press and hold the ABS ON button below the instrument panel until the Auxiliary Lights 1 activate or deactivate (depending on whether the lights were on or off.)

Auxiliary Lights 2 cannot be toggled on or off using the motorcycle’s controls, but can be set to mimic the on/off state of Auxiliary Lights 1 using the ezCAN configuration software.

If configured, all brake, accessory and horn outputs will remain active if the front auxiliary lights are deactivated.

Toggle Auxiliary Lights One on or off by pressing the turn signal cancel button for 3 seconds. Toggle Auxiliary Lights Two on or off by triple-clicking the turn signal cancel button.

If configured, all brake, accessory and horn outputs will remain active if the front auxiliary lights are deactivated.

Additional options for front auxiliary lights

This setting eases the load on the vehicle’s battery by allowing the relevant auxiliary front lights to be switched on only when the vehicle’s engine is running.

This function turns the corresponding side’s front auxiliary lights off whenever a turn signal is active on that side. This ensures that the bike’s turn signals are always visible when used.

Note: To enable this feature on a Generation 1 ezCAN, one front auxiliary light must be connected to a high-power (red or orange) circuit. The other front auxiliary light in the same light set must be connected to a low-power (white or yellow) circuit.

This function turns the corresponding side’s front auxiliary lights on whenever a turn signal is active on that side. This enhances the visibility of the turn signal on that side.

This function strobes all front auxiliary lights whenever the horn is active.

This function strobes all front auxiliary lights whenever the flash-to-pass button is triple-clicked.

This function allows the bike’s hazard warning lights and front auxiliary lights to flash in an alternating pattern. This ensures that the hazard lights are always visible, even when front auxiliary lights are at maximum brightness.

This setting modulates the output of front auxiliary lights, allowing them to dim and brighten 4 times per second.

By default, brightness is modulated between a user-specified intensity and 70% of the specified intensity.

If enabled, the Modulation function is active only during the daytime.

If three-wire auxiliary front lights have been installed, switch this
mode ON for the relevant power circuit. If two-wire auxiliary front
lights have been installed, switch this mode OFF for the relevant power circuit.

IMPORTANT:

  • If 3-Wire Dimming Mode is not switched OFF for two-wire lights, the lights will remain at full brightness regardless of their actual day/night brightness setting.
  • If 3-Wire Dimming Mode is not switched ON for three-wire lights, the lights may flicker or ‘stutter’ when their brightness is adjusted, or their brightness adjustment may ‘jump’ between low and high settings.
  • This function is not available on Generation I 2-wire ezCANs (all Generation I devices have been discontinued).

Adjust front auxiliary light brightness

If your BMW is equipped with a BMW Motorrad MultiController (also known as the Wonder Wheel or Selector Wheel) on the left-side switchgear, the MultiController can be used to adjust front auxiliary light brightness. 

  1. Hold the Multi-Controller LEFT until the Aux 1 lights flash twice, or RIGHT until the Aux 2 lights flash twice. The relevant auxiliary lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Rotate the Multi-Controller UP to increase brightness of the relevant lights by 10% per click (to a maximum of 100%), or DOWN to decrease brightness by 10% per click (to a minimum of 0%).
  3. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating the MultiController for more than 5 seconds.

If your BMW is not equipped with a BMW Motorrad MultiController (also known as the Wonder Wheel or Selector Wheel) on the left-side switchgear, front auxiliary light brightness is adjusted using the INFO or TRIP button on the left-side switchgear.

  1. Press and hold the INFO or TRIP button until all auxiliary front lights flash twice. The auxiliary front lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Release the INFO or TRIP button.
  3. If Auxiliary Lights 2 are to be adjusted, pull in and hold the clutch lever.
  4. Briefly press and release the INFO or TRIP button to adjust light brightness. Each press brightens the relevant auxiliary front lights by 10% to a maximum of 100%, then rolls brightness adjustment to 0% (OFF). You can repeat this cycle as many times as you need.
  5. If Auxiliary Lights 2 were being adjusted, release the clutch lever.
  6. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating the INFO or TRIP button for more than 5 seconds.


Note:
If your BMW does not have an INFO button or TRIP button, front auxiliary light brightness can only be adjusted using the ezCAN configuration software.

Front auxiliary light brightness is controlled using the Navigate Left, Navigate Right, Navigate Up and Navigate Down buttons on the left-side switchgear.

  1. Press and hold the Navigate Left button until the Aux 1 lights flash twice, or the the Navigate Right button until the Aux 2 lights flash twice. The relevant auxiliary front lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Briefly press and release the Navigate Up button to increase light brightness by 10% per click (to a maximum of 100%), or briefly press and release the Navigate Down button to decrease brightness by 10% per click (to a minimum of 0%).
  3. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating any of the Navigate buttons for more than 5 seconds.

Front auxiliary light brightness is controlled using the TRIP or trigger button on the left-side switchgear.

  1. Press and hold the TRIP or trigger button until all auxiliary front lights flash twice. The auxiliary front lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Release the TRIP or trigger button.
  3. If Auxiliary Lights 2 are to be adjusted, pull in and hold the clutch lever.
  4. Briefly press and release the TRIP or trigger button to adjust light brightness. Each press brightens the relevant auxiliary front lights by 10% to a maximum of 100%, then rolls brightness adjustment to 0% (OFF). You can repeat this cycle as many times as you need.
  5. If Auxiliary Lights 2 were being adjusted, release the clutch lever.
  6. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating the TRIP or trigger button for more than 5 seconds.

Front auxiliary light brightness is controlled using the UP and DOWN buttons on the left-side switchgear.

  1. Press and hold the UP button until the Aux 1 lights flash twice, or the DOWN button until the Aux 2 lights flash twice. The relevant front auxiliary lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Briefly press and release the UP button to increase light brightness by 10% per click (to a maximum of 100%), or the DOWN button to decrease brightness by 10% per click (to a minimum of 0%).
  3. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating the UP or DOWN buttons for more than 5 seconds.

Front auxiliary light brightness cannot be adjusted using the bike’s factory controls. 

If a HEX ezCAN II for KTM is installed, auxiliary front light brightness can be adjusted using the optional HEX Up/Down switch (above).

IMPORTANT: The optional HEX Up/Down switch is only compatible with the discontinued HEX ezCAN II for KTM. If a HEX ezCAN Gobi for KTM is installed, auxiliary front light brightness can be adjusted on the move using the optional HEX ezSWITCH, or other smart HEX controls. If an optional Hex Up/Down switch is connected, adjust auxiliary front light brightness as follows:

  1. Press and hold the UP button until the Aux 1 lights flash twice, or the DOWN button until the Aux 2 lights flash twice. The relevant front auxiliary lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Briefly press and release the UP button to increase the brightness of the relevant front auxiliary lights by 10% per press (to a maximum of 100%), or the DOWN button to decrease brightness by 10% per press (to a minimum of 0%).
  3. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating the switch for more than 5 seconds.


IMPORTANT:
Detailed information on various ways to adjust auxiliary front light brightness is given in the Operating auxiliary front lights section of the ezCAN user manual.

Front auxiliary light brightness is controlled using the Select Left/Right switch on the left-side switchgear.

  1. Press and hold the Select Left/Right switch to the LEFT until the Aux 1 lights flash twice, or to the RIGHT until the Aux 2 lights flash twice. The relevant front auxiliary lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Briefly press and release the Select Left/Right switch to the RIGHT to increase light brightness by 10% per click (to a maximum of 100%), or to the LEFT to decrease brightness by 10% per click (to a minimum of 0%).
  3. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating the Select Left/Right switch for more than 5 seconds.

Front auxiliary light brightness is controlled using the Joystick button on the left-side switchgear.

  1. Press and hold the Joystick button UP until the Aux 1 lights flash twice, or DOWN until the Aux 2 lights flash twice. The relevant auxiliary front lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Briefly press and release the joystick button UP to increase light brightness by 10% per press (to a maximum of 100%), or DOWN to decrease brightness by 10% per press (to a minimum of 0%).
  3. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating the Joystick button for more than 5 seconds.

Front auxiliary light brightness is controlled using the UP and DOWN buttons on the left-side switchgear.

  1. Press and hold the UP button until the Aux 1 lights flash twice, or the DOWN button until the Aux 2 lights flash twice. The relevant front auxiliary lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Briefly press and release the UP button to increase light brightness by 10% per click (to a maximum of 100%), or the DOWN button to decrease brightness by 10% per click (to a minimum of 0%).
  3. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating the UP or DOWN buttons for more than 5 seconds.


IMPORTANT:
Husqvarna Norden 901 models are based on the KTM 890 electronic platform, and are subject to the same electronic limitations.

IMPORTANT: The bike’s cruise control functionality must be inactive for auxiliary light control to work.

Front auxiliary light brightness is controlled using the +/RES and -/SET buttons on the left-side switchgear.

  1. Press and hold the +/RES button until the Aux 1 lights flash twice, or the -/SET button until the Aux 2 lights flash twice. The relevant auxiliary front lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Briefly press and release the +/RES button to increase light brightness by 10% per click (to a maximum of 100%), or the -/SET button to decrease brightness by 10% per click (to a minimum of 0%).
  3. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating the +/RES or -/SET buttons for more than 5 seconds.

On 2019-2022 models, front auxiliary light brightness can be controlled using the bottom Set button on the left side of the motorcycle’s instrument cluster, or the SELECT switch on the right-side switchgear.

On 2023+ models, front auxiliary light brightness is controlled using the ABS ON button below the motorcycle’s instrument cluster.

  1. Press and hold the bottom Set button, the SELECT switch, or the ABS ON button until the Aux 1 lights flash twice. The Aux 1 lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Briefly press and release the bottom Set button, the SELECT switch or the ABS ON button to adjust light brightness. Each press will brighten the Aux 1 lights by 10% to a maximum of 100%, then roll brightness through to 0% (OFF). You can repeat this cycle as many times as you need.
  3. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating the bottom Set button, the SELECT switch, or the ABS ON button for more than 5 seconds.

The brightness of Aux 2 lights cannot be adjusted using the motorcycle’s controls. If needed, adjust the brightness of Aux 2 lights using the Auxiliary Lights Two section of the ezCAN software user interface.

Front auxiliary light brightness is controlled using the MODE UP and MODE DOWN buttons on the left-side switchgear.

  1. Press and hold the MODE UP button until the Aux 1 lights flash twice, or the MODE DOWN button until the Aux 2 lights flash twice. The relevant front auxiliary lights are now in brightness-adjustment mode.
  2. Briefly press and release the MODE UP button to increase light brightness by 10% per click (to a maximum of 100%), or the MODE DOWN button to decrease brightness by 10% per click (to a minimum of 0%).
  3. Exit brightness-adjustment mode by not operating the MODE UP or MODE DOWN buttons for more than 5 seconds.

STEP 6: CONFIGURE REAR & BRAKE LIGHTS

WARNING: Read this section carefully before adjusting any ezCAN-powered rear/brake lights.
All configuration options below are accessed using the ezCAN configuration software.

Original (factory) rear light behaviour:
ezCAN settings have no effect on the bike’s factory rear light. This light will always be active whenever the ignition is ON.

Rear accessory light behaviour:
If you wish, you can configure any rear accessory rear light powered by the ezCAN to remain off even when the ignition is ON.

Original (factory) brake light behaviour:
ezCAN settings have no effect on the bike’s factory brake light. This light is only activated if either or both brake levers are pressed.

Rear accessory brake light behaviour:
As well as being activated by brake lever pressure, you can also configure any accessory brake light powered by the ezCAN to activate on other types of trigger, such as sudden deceleration.

  • The Running Light Intensity slider (right) sets the accessory rear light’s brightness between 0% and 100% of its maximum brightness.
  • The Brake Light Intensity slider (right) sets the accessory brake light’s brightness between 0% and 100% of its maximum brightness. If the accessory brake light is set to a ‘flashing’ type, this setting also determines the brightness of the flash effect.

WARNING: If an accessory rear light is set to illuminate too brightly, it may have the effect of ‘masking’ brake lights.
It is recommended that the brightness setting of any accessory rear light should be substantially less than the brightness setting of the accessory brake light. This applies whether or not the accessory rear light and the accessory brake light are separate lights.

Apply optional configuration to accessory brake lights

Under active braking, the accessory brake light comes on at a constant, user-specified brightness, without flashing, and goes off when the brake levers are released.
Brake light behaviour mimics that of the bike’s factory brake light.

Under active braking, the accessory brake light flashes four times per second at the user-specified brightness, and goes off when the brake levers are released.

Under active braking, the accessory brake light flashes four times per second for one second at the user-specified brightness, then remains on at constant brightness until the brake levers are released.

Under active emergency braking conditions, the accessory brake light flashes four times per second at the user-specified brightness, and goes off when the brake levers are released.

The sensitivity of the Emergency Stop function can be increased or decreased using the Emergency Stop sensitivity slider in the Brake Light Extra Settings sub-menu (right).

For Emergency Stop flashing to be triggered, the bike’s speed must be greater than 50 Km/h (30 mph), and the brake must be applied.

The accessory brake light flashes four times per second at the user-specified brightness if there is hard engine braking (but the brakes are not being used), and goes off when the bike stops decelerating. This alerts other road users that you are slowing quickly, even if you are not actively braking.

The sensitivity of the Rapid Engine Braking function can be increased or decreased using the Engine braking sensitivity slider in the Brake Light Extra Settings sub-menu (right).

For Rapid Engine Braking flashing to be triggered, the bike’s speed must be greater than 50 Km/h (30 mph), and the brake must not be applied.

STEP 7: CONFIGURE RUN/BRAKE/TURN LIGHTS

What are Run/Brake/Turn lights?
A Run/Brake/Turn light is a red rear light that, depending on circumstances, functions in different ways:

  • Under normal running conditions, it functions as a running light.
  • Under braking, it functions as a brake light.
  • If the vehicle is turning in the direction of the side on which the light is installed, the light functions as a turn signal (typically illuminating at brake-light intensity). 


Why would you want to use Run/Brake/Turn lights?
Run/Brake/Turn lights are typically used to increase the visibility of wider vehicles, and vehicles with unusual configurations (such as motorcycles with sidecars).

When the Run/Brake/Turn function is enabled, the following operating conditions apply:

  • Flash on braking and California legal flashing options are not available for Run/Brake/Turn lights, as these functions could cause a flashing brake light to be mistaken for a turn signal.
  • The Flash on Emergency Stop and Flash on Rapid Engine Braking options can be enabled. If one or both of these options are enabled, their activation will override turn signal activation.


When the Run/Brake/Turn function is enabled, function priority (from highest to lowest) is:

  1. Flash on Emergency Stop / Rapid Engine Braking
  2. Blinker
  3. Brake light
  4. Lauflicht

STEP 8: CONFIGURE THE HORN

The Horn function applies full battery voltage to the relevant power circuit whenever the bike’s horn button is pressed.

If you often use the factory horn for very short ‘bursts’ and want to avoid activating the accessory horn during a short burst, you can add a time delay of 0.25 seconds or 0.5 seconds between the time the horn button is pressed and the time the horn activates by clicking-and-dragging the Delay slider (right, above). Alternatively, set the slider fully to the left to disable the horn delay.

If needed, you can disable the accessory horn fuction by clicking the Horn enabled slider.

STEP 9: CONFIGURE THE ACCESSORY/IGNITION SUPPLY

If a power circuit is set as a 12-volt accessory circuit, it will supply full battery voltage whenever the bike’s ignition is ON.

This function has a configurable delay time-out (to a maximum of 60 seconds) that will keep the output ON for the configured time after the bike’s ignition has been switched OFF (right, above).

Use the Time-out slider (right, above) to set the preferred time-out delay. This avoids power cuts to the accessories connected to the relevant circuit during ignition cycles.

STEP 10: CONFIGURE TURN SIGNALS

Depending on its configuration, any light configured to function as an auxiliary turn signal will be:

  • Active as a running light or marker light whenever the ignition switch is ON
  • Active as a turn signal whenever the turn signal for that side is switched on
  • Active as an auxiliary hazard light whenever the hazard lights are switched on. To use this feature, set one or more power circuits to power auxiliary left or right turn signals.


The Running Light Intensity slider lets you adjust the intensity of the relevant lights whenever they are functioning as running lights (right).

The Turn Signal Intensity slider lets you adjust the intensity of the relevant lights whenever they are functioning as turn signals.
