HEX ezCAN PURE Installation Guide

Optional Plug & Play Input Harness - Yamaha 001

This is a step-by-step guide to installing an optional, model-specific HEX ezCAN PURE plug & play input harness on Yamaha Ténéré 700 models.

Yamaha 001 optional plug & play input harness packaging:

Optional plug & play harnesses are currently available for the following Yamaha motorcycles:

  • 2025 onward Ténéré 700 models (all models with ride-by-wire throttle)

IMPORTANT:
This optional plug & play input harness should only be installed on Ténéré 700 models manufactured during and after 2025.
If your Ténéré 700 model was manufactured between 2019 and 2024 (i.e. if it has a cable-operated throttle), we strongly recommend you use the HEX ezCAN Yari for Yamaha instead.

  • 1x optional plug-&-play input harness for Yamaha Ténéré 700
  • 1x high beam splitter (6-Pin connector)
  • 1x high beam splitter (4-Pin connector)
  • 1x horn splitter

Step 1

Read the generic HEX ezCAN PURE Installation Guide

The generic HEX ezCAN PURE installation guide contains all the general procedures you need to install a HEX ezCAN PURE on your Yamaha Ténéré 700.

If you are planning to install an optional HEX plug-&-play input harness instead of the generic input harness included with the HEX ezCAN PURE, read the instructions below in conjunction with the generic HEX ezCAN PURE installation guide.

Step 2

Expose the Needed Connection Points

IMPORTANT: All disassembly and reassembly instructions on this page are to be regarded as a guide only. For detailed instructions, refer to your motorcycle’s service or workshop manual as appropriate.

Make sure all signal input connection points are easily accessible by doing the steps that follow:

  1. Remove the seat.
  2. Expose the battery by lifting the engine ECU up off its three rubber mounts. For now, leave the ECU positioned out of the way of the work area.
  1. The wiring harness connectors for the turn signals and tail light are located under the left-side rear panel, sandwiched between the black plastic splash panel and the rear outer panel (left).
    • The wiring harness connectors for the tail light are white 3-pin MT connectors.
    • The wiring harness connectors for the turn signals are white 2-pin JWPF connectors.
  1. Remove the left-side and right-side front fairing panels (the panels on which the front turn signals are located).

  2. The 6-pin headlight connector is located under the right-side front fairing panel (right).

  1. The horn is located at the lower left corner of the radiator (left).

Step 3

Decide the HEX ezCAN's Location

When installing a HEX ezCAN PURE on the Yamaha Ténéré 700, we recommend that you install the main body of the HEX ezCAN underneath the engine ECU.

Our experience has shown that this placement gives the best combination of input connector placement, battery cable slack, ease of access to the USB port and status LED, and protection from damage.

Step 4

Connect the Optional Plug & Play Input Harness to the HEX ezCAN PURE

Connect the 6-pin male JWPF connector on the optional plug & play input harness to the ezCAN PURE’s 6-pin female JWPF connector (below).

Step 5

Connect the Optional Plug & Play Harness to the Motorcycle

First, switch OFF the motorcycle’s ignition switch.

Next, connect the input connectors on the optional plug & play harness to the motorcycle as follows:

HIGH BEAM splitter (right):

  1. Determine whether your bike features the 6-pin or 4-pin headlight connector. The Plug & Play harness comes with both options – select which is relevant for your bike. Disconnect the motorcycle’s male and female 6-pin or 4-pin headlight connectors located under the right-side front fairing panel.
  2. Connect the female connector on the HEX high-beam splitter to the male wiring harness plug on the motorcycle.
  3. Connect the male connector on the high-beam splitter to the female wiring harness plug on the motorcycle.
  4. Carefully route the blue trigger wire back to the HEX ezCAN PURE along existing wiring harness runs and frame tubes.
  5. Connect the single-terminal male plug on the high-beam splitter to the single-terminal female plug with blue wire on the main plug-&-play harness.

TAIL LIGHT splitter (left):

  1. Disconnect the motorcycle’s white male and female MT connectors located under the left-side rear panel.
  2. Connect the black female MT connector on the HEX tail light splitter to the white male MT wiring harness plug on the motorcycle.
  3. Connect the black male MT connector on the HEX tail light splitter to the white female MT wiring harness plug on the motorcycle.
  4. Carefully route the tail light trigger wire back to the HEX ezCAN PURE along existing wiring harness runs and frame tubes.

TURN SIGNAL splitters:

NOTE: On the Yamaha Ténéré 700:

  • The factory left rear JWPF turn signal connectors are white (left). Connect the HEX 2-pin turn signal splitter with black wire between these connectors.
  • The factory right rear JWPF turn signal connectors are black (left). Connect the HEX 2-pin turn signal splitter with brown wire between these connectors.

Follow the steps below for the left and right turn signals.

  1. Disconnect the motorcycle’s male and female 2-pin JWPF turn-signal connectors located under the left-side rear panel.
  2. Connect the female JWPF connector on the relevant side’s HEX turn signal splitter to the male JWPF wiring harness plug on the motorcycle.
  3. Connect the male JWPF connector on the relevant side’s HEX turn signal splitter to the female JWPF wiring harness plug on the motorcycle.
  4. Carefully route the relevant turn signal trigger wire back to the HEX ezCAN PURE along existing wiring harness runs and frame tubes.

HORN splitter:

  1. Switch the motorcycle’s ignition ON.
  2. Locate the factory horn.
  3. Touch your multimeter’s negative (black) probe to the Battery negative terminal.
  4. While pressing the horn button, touch the positive (red) probe to one of the horn’s terminals, then the other.
  5. Whenever the horn is active, there will be a voltage change on only one of the horn terminals. The terminal on which the voltage change happens is the terminal to which you must connect the HORN splitter.

IMPORTANT:
The voltage change when the horn is activated could be from approximately 0V to approximately battery voltage, or from approximately battery voltage to approximately 0V.

When you have identified the correct horn terminal the horn splitter must be connected to, connect the horn splitter as follows:

  1. For illustration purposes below, the plug-&-play harness horn splitter is connected to the horn terminal leading from the pink wire. Note that the wire identified on your motorcycle may have a different colour.
  2. Remove the correct spade terminal from the factory horn (below).
  1. Connect the horn splitter’s male+female spade terminal to the exposed male terminal on the horn (below).
  1. Connect the disconnected female spade terminal to the exposed male terminal on the horn splitter (below).
  1. Carefully route the horn splitter wire back to the HEX ezCAN PURE along existing wiring harness runs and frame tubes.
  2. Connect the single-terminal male plug on the horn splitter to the single-terminal female plug with green wire on the main plug-&-play harness.

Step 6

Reassemble the Motorcycle

The reassembly procedure is the reverse of disassembly.

Step 7

Set the Input Inversion and Threshold Voltage Values

To ensure that the HEX ezCAN PURE gives peak performance, adjust its control inputs as follows:

  1. Set the input inversion settings and threshold voltage values as seen in Step 2C of the HEX ezCAN PURE Software Download & Configuration Guide.
  2. If the threshold voltage values given in the page above do not give consistent performance, adjust the values as shown in the Additional configuration settings for HEX ezCAN PURE section of the HEX ezCAN User Manual (download the manual from here).

Step 8

Continue the Installation

Continue the HEX ezCAN PURE installation from step 8 of the HEX ezCAN PURE installation guide.
